The amethyst is cut with a checkerboard crown, a grid of small facets across the top of the oval that breaks the purple into shifting panels instead of returning one flat flash. At 14.45 carats it covers most of the finger between the knuckles and stands well clear of the shank.
A single halo of 42 round diamonds traces the oval, bead set close so the outline stays crisp against the deep purple. The rhodium plated sterling silver gallery is cut away underneath and the shank tapers sharply as it leaves the head, which keeps a stone this size from looking heavy on a size 7 finger.
