A cushion cut blue sapphire anchors this pendant inside a close halo of small round diamonds that follows the cushion outline rather than rounding it off. The bail above is set with diamonds as well, so the line of light runs up out of the halo and into the chain instead of stopping at the top of the frame.
The halo and bail read bright white against the warm yellow of the chain, and that two tone contrast is what sharpens the blue at a distance. At 18 by 11 millimeters the drop stays high and close in the hollow of the throat, a contained point of color rather than a broad plate.
