The drop is built in two pieces. An oval blue sapphire sits inside a close halo of small round diamonds, and above it a tapering bail is set with diamonds as well, so the light carries upward from the stone toward the chain rather than stopping at the frame. Nothing interrupts the line between the two.
18K white gold keeps the setting cool, and the blue stays blue instead of picking up warmth from the metal. At 21 by 12 millimeters the pendant hangs at the top of the sternum and moves with the wearer. There is enough diamond around the sapphire to work in evening light, and not so much that the oval outline is lost.
