The bail is not an afterthought. Two parallel bars of pavé diamonds rise from the top of the halo and curve apart over the chain, so the pendant hangs from a small open arch instead of a single loop. Below it an oval blue sapphire of 3.58 carats sits in a close halo of round diamonds.
All of the diamond work is in white metal while the bail frame and chain are yellow gold, setting a cool bright ring directly against warm gold at the top of the piece. At 23 by 12 millimeters it hangs with real weight, and 0.44 carats of diamonds keep a rim of light around the blue at any distance.
