An emerald cut blue topaz stands north to south at the top of this ring, its step cut faces giving flat open windows of colour rather than the scatter a brilliant produces. At 4.68 carats it fills nearly the whole width of the mount, held at the four corners by short claws that barely intrude on the outline.
Three round white topaz are set in a vertical column into each shoulder, six in all, reading as two short bright bars framing the blue. From there the shank widens and rolls into a heavy plain band at the back, so the ring carries weight behind the stone rather than tapering away from it. Sized 8 US.
