An oval sapphire holds the middle of each earring, dark enough to read close to black until light catches the crown and draws the blue back out. Twenty claw set diamonds ring it with their tips angled outward, which finishes the halo in points instead of a continuous band.
The side view shows the work underneath: a tall open gallery of gold wires fans from the post up to the collet and lifts the sapphire clear of the lobe. At twelve by ten millimeters each earring covers a broad oval.
