The opal is a large pear cabochon set point up, outlined by a close halo of small round diamonds that follows the teardrop the whole way around. The dome is translucent and pale, and color lifts and drops beneath the surface as the hand moves, greens and warmer flecks surfacing in turn rather than holding still.
Better than eight carats of cabochon makes for a broad head: it spans the width of the finger between the knuckles and reads as a soft milky shape from across a table, with the halo doing all the sharpening up close. It is worn at size 7.
