Each butterfly is built from four smoky quartz: two marquise cuts raked up and out for the top wings, two pears turned down below, every stone in its own silver frame with a beaded edge tracing the outline. The brown sits mid tone and faintly grey, and because each wing is framed separately the shape holds together at a glance.
These hang from lever backs rather than sitting on posts, so at 30 by 11 millimeters they swing at the lobe and stay legible from the side as well as the front. Two fine antennae curl up from the body between the upper wings.
