Geometry runs the whole design. The cushion cut tanzanite sits inside a halo whose corners are cut off into an octagon rather than following the curve of the stone, small triangular openings are pierced through the frame at both sides and at the base, and above the halo a diamond set lozenge links up to a tapered pave bail. The result is angular and deliberately deco, a series of straight edges around a soft cornered stone.
The tanzanite itself carries the color in broad blocks, violet through the middle of the crown and a deeper blue where the corners catch shadow. Twenty-three millimeters from the top of the bail to the base of the frame, twelve across, hanging on a fine sixteen inch rope chain that holds it at the hollow of the throat.
