A double halo does the work here. Two full concentric rings of round white topaz circle the oval amethyst, the inner row tight against the claws and the outer row flaring wider as it falls toward the shank, so the head reads as a domed medallion rather than a flat plate. Sixty-four small stones against one large one, and the amethyst still takes the eye because its checkerboard crown breaks the purple into squares of light and shadow that the topaz cannot answer.
The shank is plain and polished, squared where it meets the outer row, which keeps all the visual weight at the top of the ring. On a size 6 the head spans most of the finger and stands well proud of it.
