The amethyst is an emerald cut, a tall rectangle with clipped corners, and the step facets across its crown hold the purple as broad flat planes of even color instead of breaking it into sparks. It is dark and saturated, tipping toward blue in the deepest facets near the corners. Forty-eight diamonds ring it in one continuous halo that turns each of the eight corners cleanly and closes at the top without a visible join.
Outside the halo sits a second stepped border of plain metal, which gives the pendant a framed, almost architectural edge. The bail above is diamond set as well. At 24 by 13 millimeters it stands upright and compact, and it comes on a silver chain in a gift box, so nothing further is needed to wear it.
