The amethyst is a pear, and at 8.98 carats it takes up very nearly the full width of the finger with the point angled toward the knuckle. Color runs light through the stone and pales further at the tip, while the broad open facets across the crown return light in flat planes rather than small sparks.
There are no accent stones. What surrounds the pear is a beaded frame in white metal, a fine line of milgrain tracking the outline, and past that the sterling silver band is flat and entirely plain. Size 6 US, and it wears as a statement ring resting on one large stone and very little else.
