The center is a pear cut amethyst set point up, purple deep enough that the facet pattern only opens where light gets underneath it. Thirteen pear cut tanzanites ring it, each in its own claw setting with the narrow end turned inward, so the halo scallops out into thirteen lobes instead of a smooth circle. Between that ring and the center frame the gallery is left pierced and open, which stops the head reading heavy despite its size.
Tanzanite runs blue toward violet while amethyst runs violet toward red, so the halo does not contrast with the center so much as carry it a step further. Fine beading edges the frame around the pear. On a size 6 the head fills the finger from knuckle to knuckle and sits high.
