An oval amethyst cut with a checkerboard crown sits in a plain bezel, encircled by a close halo of small black spinels. The halo is the decision that makes this ring: black against purple sharpens the outline of the centre stone in a way a white halo would soften. The shoulders are wide and polished with a shallow groove running through them, carrying the weight of the head without adding more stone.
