Round brilliant cut, and at this size the facet junctions do the work. From across a room the stones read as flat black; up close the crown breaks into gray and near silver planes that shift as the light moves. Four slender prongs hold each one in a plain basket, with no gallery detail competing for attention beneath.
Eight millimeters across, a shade over two carats apiece, which is the size at which a stud stops being a dot and becomes a shape at the ear. The white gold is kept to a minimum and shows mostly as four bright points at the compass positions of each stone.
