One round brilliant black diamond sits in a four prong basket at each ear with nothing between the stone and the metal. Black diamond does not send light back up through the pavilion the way a colorless stone does; it takes the light at the surface, so what reads is a dark disc with the facet edges catching bright and the crown drawn in outline against the skin.
Prongs and post are 14K yellow gold, warm enough to run a thin gold line around all that black. Each stone measures 9 by 9 millimeters, close to a centimeter across, and the pair totals 4.76 carats, which is about where the density of the material puts a stone of that footprint.
