Six marquise cut blue sapphires build the cross, four running down the upright and one on each arm, every stone set point to point so the line of the design never breaks. Each sapphire sits in a beaded white metal frame that traces its own pointed outline, which gives the piece a bright dotted edge and a silhouette closer to a chain of petals than a plain Latin cross.
At 34 x 17 mm the cross is slim rather than weighty, and the openwork between the frames keeps it moving on the 18 inch chain. From arm's length the sapphires read as one even band of deep blue against bright silver.
