A butterfly, not a band. The face of this cocktail ring is a full figural butterfly in gold plated silver, wings spread wide enough to cover the knuckle, with pierced filigree scrollwork filling the outer edges of each wing and two fine antennae curling up off the head.
Sapphires fill the inner wings, upward of twenty of them in mixed shapes, ovals and marquise and small rounds fitted together to follow the curve of each panel rather than sitting in rows. They are dark and closely packed against the warm plated openwork, so the blue masses read as the body of the wings and the pierced gold reads as the light around them. The total weight is spread across all of them, which is why the piece covers so much of the finger at under three carats.
