A round blue sapphire of just over a carat sits high in four yellow gold prongs, dark enough through the center that the facet pattern only surfaces where light strikes it directly. The shoulders are what make the ring: an openwork gold framework of angled bars steps down from the head on both sides, with diamonds set singly into the gaps in a staggered zigzag rather than a straight row.
Two more diamonds sit in a small bar tucked under the girdle at the front of the gallery, ten across the piece in total. Below the openwork the shank rounds off plain, and the gaps in the metal let light through behind the shoulders so the ring reads lighter on the finger than its width suggests.
