Openwork carries this one. A chain of small pierced loops runs down each shoulder from the round sapphire, every loop holding a tiny diamond, and the line of stones continues along the shank past the last of them. Because the gold between the loops is cut away, light passes through the shoulders instead of stopping at them, and the whole gallery reads as lace rather than as solid metal.
The sapphire is 0.54 carats and sits deep and dark at the center, with 0.04 carats of diamond distributed through the openwork. Yellow gold against a stone this saturated gives a strong warm to cold contrast at close range while the piece stays narrow across the finger. Size 7 US.
