The shank does not run straight into the head. It splits into two strands that cross over each other on either side of the oval sapphire, one strand left plain in yellow gold and the other set with a line of small diamonds, so the crossover shows a bright edge against a warm one and the stone sits in the gap where the two meet. It is a twist rather than a plain split, and it is what gives the ring its movement.
Sapphire weight is 0.94 carats and diamond weight 0.08 carats, the diamonds spread along the crossing strands rather than gathered at the center. The oval is set slightly raised on yellow gold claws, clear enough in tone that the gold reads warm beneath it without dulling the blue. Size 7 US.
