A round blue sapphire sits at the middle of this ring in four yellow gold claws, circled by a pave halo of small white diamonds that is cut into four arcs by bars of the gold running out to the shoulders. That break is what separates the piece from an ordinary halo: the head reads as a target, four bright segments divided by warm metal, rather than a single unbroken ring of light.
The sapphire weighs 1.46 carats against 0.20 carats of diamond in the surround. Yellow gold pulled tight around a dark blue center warms the color noticeably where a white setting would hold it cold. The head sits wide and low, and the shoulders flatten into a broad tapered shank at size 7 US.
