The halo around this 1.98 carat oval sapphire is geometric rather than round: pave rounds curve over the top and under the bottom of the stone, and at each side a small square set diamond squares the outline off, so the frame reads as a stretched hexagon. It is a deco line, and it makes a modest stone look considered rather than merely set.
Yellow gold claws grip the sapphire and a fine yellow band runs away from the head with no stones on the shoulders at all, leaving the 0.14 carats of diamonds entirely in that framing. The blue is bright and medium in tone, warmed by the gold immediately around it.
