An oval blue sapphire sits crosswise in four yellow gold claws, and the shoulders open into marquise shaped leaves of white metal, each pavé set with small diamonds. The two metal colors do real work: the white lifts the diamonds, the yellow warms the blue at the point where stone meets setting.
The sapphire is dark and even across the table, closer to navy than to sky. Diamond pavé carries on down both shoulders in a narrow line so the band appears to taper into the stone rather than stop at it. At size 7 the ring wears low and close, more everyday proportion than cocktail.
