The shank does not simply meet the stone, it crosses over it. Two ribbons of 18K yellow gold sweep past one another at the top of this ring, one lifting the oval blue sapphire in four prongs while the other passes beneath, and each tail carries a short line of pave diamonds that thins out along the shoulder.
The effect is movement rather than a mount. Yellow gold warms the sapphire's blue where the two touch, and the small diamonds mostly mark the direction of the crossover. Size 7.
