The frame around this oval sapphire is not a closed halo but a crossover: a pave set ribbon in white metal loops around the stone and passes over itself at each side, then runs off down the shoulders. That crossing gives the head an off center, slightly asymmetric line that keeps the eye moving around the 2.06 carat sapphire rather than stopping at a border.
Yellow gold carries the prongs, the loops and the shank, and the two metal colors are used deliberately: warm gold on the outside, white pave against the blue. The 0.27 carats of diamonds are spread thinly along that ribbon so the effect is a bright outline rather than a mass of stones.
