An oval blue sapphire of 3.08 carats fills the head of this ring, ringed by round diamonds and then set into a frame that flares at four points, giving the halo a soft cushion outline rather than a plain oval one. The shoulders are the detail worth noting: carved white gold scrollwork, pierced through, curling up on either side to meet that frame.
None of the scrollwork carries stones. The 0.18 carats of diamonds sits entirely in the halo, and the shoulders do their work in metal alone, which is what gives the ring its ornamental, worked character. At size 7 it is a broad head over a shank with real body to it.
