This sapphire is a cushion rather than an oval, square in outline with softened corners, and it is set low in four claws with no halo around it. The blue holds right through the middle of the stone instead of thinning out at the table.
What frames it is a short run of pave diamonds down each shoulder, set into a flat topped band of 18K white gold that steps up slightly where it meets the claws. At 3.48 carats the sapphire carries almost all the weight in the ring; the 0.14 carats of diamond beside it are edging, not competition, and the result stays lean on a size 7 finger.
