A cushion-cut blue sapphire holds the center in four white prongs with one round brilliant diamond set close on either side, making this a three stone ring in the strictest sense: nothing else is set anywhere on it. The two diamonds sit slightly below the height of the cushion, so the line across the finger steps up to the sapphire and back down again.
The sapphire is 4.46 carats, the two diamonds 0.38 carats together. White metal is the unforgiving choice next to a blue this open, since there is no warmth in the setting to soften it; the effect is deliberately cold and the cushion outline keeps the whole head squared rather than rounded. The shank is plain and tapers away from the shoulders at size 7 US.
