The halo here is cut into segments. Small white diamonds ring the oval sapphire, but bars of yellow gold run outward between them at regular intervals, so the surround reads as a sunburst of alternating gold and white rather than a smooth circle of pave. Against a center stone this dark, that alternation is what keeps the outer edge of the head legible from a distance.
Blue sapphire accounts for 4.78 carats, diamond for 0.40 carats. The sapphire is the largest element by a wide margin, deep enough in tone that the yellow gold around it supplies most of the brightness in the piece. Heavy shoulders sweep up into the head without any break in the metal, and the shank stays broad at size 7 US.
