One oval blue sapphire to each ear, held in a simple four prong basket of 10K yellow gold with the long axis running up and down the lobe. The pair totals 0.94 carats, a little under half a carat apiece, and at 7 by 5 millimeters each stone is a close fitting stud rather than a wide one. The blue is deep, reading almost ink dark until light catches the crown and the oval facets open up.
Yellow gold does the work here that white metal would not: the four small beaded prongs are the only bright points on the setting, and they frame the stone with a warm outline that lifts the color away from the skin. At conversational distance the pair holds as a quiet point of blue at the lobe.
