Teardrop outlines set point up, these studs carry 1.57 carats of blue sapphire between them in yellow gold claws, one at the tip and two at the wide base of each stone. The gold picks out the three corners of the pear and becomes part of the outline rather than something hidden behind it.
The sapphires are inky through the middle and lighten only where a facet turns. Warm metal beside that darkness reads richer than a white setting would, and at eight by five millimeters each stone stays neat at the lobe with its point angled toward the jaw.
