A pear cut blue sapphire sits point upward in each ear, held by three yellow gold claws over an open basket that lets light in behind the stone. The blue is deep enough to read almost navy where the crown is in shadow, opening to a brighter band across the upper facets where light does get through.
The two stones come to 1.59 carats and each measures 8 by 6 millimeters, a footprint that stays close against the lobe. The mounting is 10K yellow gold with a post and butterfly back, and it is the warmth of that metal that makes the dark blue look darker still beside it.
