Each earring stacks two London blue topazes point to point, a trillion above a square step cut, so two facet patterns work against each other down the drop: quick triangular flashes on top, broad calm planes of color below. Slim white gold claws grip only the corners and the pair hangs from plain French wires.
London blue is the darkest of the blue topaz colors, a saturated teal that sits closer to ink than to sky, and it behaves like a neutral: as much at home against a gray sweater as against evening black. The 18K white gold keeps the color cool, and the wires let the drops swing, which is what keeps stones this dark catching light.
The drops run just under an inch, carrying 9.71 carats between the four stones. Blue topaz is the traditional gem of the fourth wedding anniversary, and dark teal is an easy answer to the something blue question.
