A cushion cut blue topaz hangs corner up in four claws at the foot of each drop, its crown cut as a checkerboard that breaks the pale blue into a grid of small squares. Directly above it sits a bow worked in yellow toned openwork metal, with a marquise amethyst set upright at the knot so the purple lands against the warmer ribbon.
The whole assembly hangs on a slim bar from a polished ball at the lobe, which lets the topaz swing clear of the bow rather than sitting flush behind it. At 35 by 11 millimeters the drop takes its length from the bar, not from the stone, and the shift from white metal to yellow does as much for the piece as the color pairing does.
