Three pear cut blue topaz to each earring, with black spinel doing everything else. The first pear sits in a spinel surround at the lobe; below it a second crowns a large open double teardrop whose entire outline, inner loop and outer, is pavé set in black; a third pear hangs point down in the empty middle of the frame.
A solid fan of black pavé closes the base and gives the outline something to stand on. At 61 by 31 millimeters the earring is wide as well as long, and because the frame is open the pale blue is read through a black silhouette rather than against a plate. The two stones are near enough in weight to balance, 4.92 carats of topaz to 3.86 of spinel.
