An emerald cut topaz fills the pendant: a tall rectangle with clipped corners and long parallel steps cut across the crown, so rather than scattering light it holds it in broad sheets of pale blue that shift as one block when the pendant turns. Forty-eight diamonds ring it in a single continuous halo that follows the octagonal outline exactly, corners and all, with no break at the top.
The bail carries diamonds of its own, so the sparkle keeps going where the chain meets the pendant instead of stopping at the frame. Rhodium plated sterling silver throughout leaves the metal colorless and puts nothing warm near the stone. At 24.1 millimeters tall against 12.7 wide the pendant is decidedly upright in proportion, and the fine cable chain sets it just below the collarbone at 18 inches.
