The center stone is a large oval blue topaz cut with a checkerboard crown, its facets laid out as a grid across the top so the surface breaks light into small squares instead of long flashes. At 11.90 carats it fills the width of the finger and sits high enough to catch the eye from the side.
Fourteen round black spinels ring it in a scalloped halo, each bead set in its own rounded collet so the outline of the head reads as a row of little arcs. Opaque black against sky blue is the whole idea of the ring, and rhodium plated sterling silver keeps the join between them sharp. The shank splits into slim bands as it leaves the head, sized 8.
