The topaz is an upright oval and it fills nearly the whole top of the ring, more than three carats of pale blue with almost no metal visible around the table. An unbroken beaded frame in white gold rings the stone, and small diamonds are worked into that frame and into the shoulders below it.
The shank is what gives the ring its shape: it splits under the head and the two ribbons cross over each other beside the stone before rejoining, leaving a small open window on each side. The blue stays bright and pale rather than deep, and at size 6 US the ring wears at cocktail scale.
