These are inside out hoops: oval citrines are set around the outer face and again around the inner face, roughly ten to a hoop, so the golden color shows whether the ear is seen straight on or from behind.
Shared claws hold the ovals nose to tail with almost no silver showing between them. The hoop measures 25 millimeters across on a band only 4 wide, which packs a great deal of stone onto a narrow frame.
