Forty eight emeralds are massed into a domed cluster on each earring, laid in concentric rings that step up toward a small group of stones at the center. The outermost ring is cut as pears with their points facing outward, which is what gives the face its slightly starred outline rather than a plain circle.
At 2.30 carats across forty eight stones the individual emeralds are small, and the effect is cumulative: the green arrives as one mass of color rather than from any single stone. Rhodium plated sterling silver holds each in a claw, and the many small bright metal points between the stones lift the whole face. Fifteen millimeters across.
