The dragonfly's body is a descending line of round garnets, graduating smaller toward the tail, with a pear cut garnet at the thorax and a cluster of three at the head, 1.90 carats of red in total. The wings are the counterpoint: pale, pave set with 0.30 carats of white topaz and outlined in blackened metal so each one is drawn in hard dark line against the bright stones inside it. Blackening the outline rather than leaving it silver is what gives the wings their veined, insect quality. It measures 43 by 35 millimeters on an 18 inch chain.
