These are not plain studs. Each earring is a rounded triangular plate of sterling silver with a curved, tapering blade sweeping up and away behind it, pierced through with a scrolling openwork pattern. One round garnet is prong set into the upper corner of the triangle, deep red and concentrated against all that polished white metal.
At 14 by 10 millimeters the pair sits flat on the lobe and reads mostly as silver, with the garnet as the one point of color and the openwork catching light along the curve.
