Each earring is a butterfly built from four garnets: two marquise cut wings above, two rounded wings below, all deep red and set into silver frames edged with fine beading. Thin antennae curl up from the body and the butterfly swings from a lever back closure, so it moves independently of the ear.
The beading around each wing is metal work rather than stones, which keeps the outline bright without diluting the red. Sterling silver, 30 by 11 millimeters, 2.56 carats of garnet across the pair.
