An open heart, with the word Mom lettered in gold across it in a flowing script and a heart cut garnet of 0.48 carats set at the lower curve. The remaining 0.04 carats is black spinel, a run of tiny stones tracing one sweep of the heart's outline so that half the frame is bright and half is dark. The contrast between the two halves is what stops the piece being sentimental in the obvious way. It hangs from an 18 inch chain.
