A single round garnet occupies the whole top of this ring, its crown cut in a checkerboard of small squares rather than the usual brilliant facets, so the light returns in a fine grid instead of broad flashes. At 7.36 carats the stone is substantial across the finger, and the red runs deep enough to look almost black around the girdle before it clears where light passes through the middle.
Four heavy prongs in yellow tone metal hold it at the compass points, and the band below stays plain, round in section and unbroken. The mount is doing one job here, which is to carry the stone and to warm the color from underneath. Sized 8 US.
