Three tiers of lapis hang from each ear: a rectangular panel at the top inside a stepped, almost architectural frame of white topaz, an oval below it held in a pointed arch of the same pave, and a pear shaped drop at the bottom in a plain bezel finished with a small paved finial. The outlines are all cusps and points, which gives the pair a deco silhouette rather than a soft one.
The lapis is opaque and flat polished rather than domed, a deep navy flecked with lighter and darker patches, and it swallows light where the topaz throws it back. That contrast is the whole design. At 44 by 15 millimeters the drops swing well below the lobe.
