An emerald cut London blue topaz of 7.50 carats stands upright at the center of this ring, deep and faintly steely, its step cut facets running as long parallel bars down the table. What frames it is not a ring of stones but a band of white metal worked with fine beading, drawing a bright narrow outline hard against the dark blue.
The Swiss blue topaz do something better than a halo. They are marquise cut and set in vertical fans at each shoulder, points outward, in a blue several shades lighter than the center stone, so the ring steps from pale at the edges to dark at the middle. Beneath them the shank divides into three slim bands. Rhodium plated sterling silver throughout, on a size 6 finger.
