The topaz sits at the foot of this pendant rather than at its middle. One oval of 6.62 carats is claw set east to west across the base, and everything above it is open: curved silver ribs sweep up and inward from either side of the stone, meet a central spine of stacked chevron cutouts, and taper to a kite shaped open bail. The outline that makes is closer to a vase or a lyre than to a frame around a stone.
Fine beadwork runs along the edge of each rib in white metal, setting a granular texture against the flat polish of the openings. The topaz reads dark teal blue, deep enough that the pavilion goes almost black at the two ends of the oval while the middle stays open and lit. The pendant measures 27 millimeters tall by 19 wide and hangs from a 16 inch chain, short enough to keep it high at the throat where the openwork can be read.
