An emerald cut London blue topaz fills the head of the ring, its long step facets running down the table in broad flat planes rather than scattering light the way a brilliant would. The blue is very dark, closer to teal ink than to sky, and it holds that depth right out to the clipped corners where the V prongs grip it.
A tight rectangular halo of small stones is bead set into a beaded white metal frame that follows the outline of the octagon, and it reads brighter and denser than a plain border would. The head sits low with an open gallery beneath it, and a plain tapered shank runs into the shoulders without a break. Size 6 US.
